About Homeschool visits to the History Trust of South Australia

Homeschool education visits to our museums and gallery are a fantastic way to connect your children with primary sources and artefacts and to make South Australian history come to life. We are currently offering self-guided visits to homeschool families with a view to adding additional resources, regularly-available-experiences and homeschool-specific-events in the coming years.

Booking requirements

A visiting homeschool family or group must:

  • make a booking ahead of time, via the education website – Book Now
  • provide documented evidence of homeschooling approval to the museum ahead of your visit
  • visit with a ratio of at least 1:4 adults to students

Visiting the South Australian Maritime Museum

The South Australian Maritime Museum preserves, explores and celebrates the human history of our oceans and rivers. The exhibitions and displays are housed in the historic Bond Store (1854) with three floors of objects and displays telling the stories of our seas and rivers.

Make your way through the three levels of the museum, visit our exhibits, deepen your learning using our learning guide. Make sure to stop by to ask questions of our friendly Visitor Engagement Officer team then go for a wander to nearby McLaren Wharf and visit the historic Port Adelaide Lighthouse (1869), the much-loved steam tug Yelta (1948) and the historic police launch, the Archie Badenoch (1945).

Visiting the National Motor Museum

Set in the beautiful Adelaide Hills, the National Motor Museum explores the social history of Australia through the lens of motoring. While visiting, you will discover vehicles that travelled Australia and linked some of the most isolated communities in the world. From the earliest of vehicles like the Shearer Steam Engine (1896) to modern day innovations.

Visiting the Migration Museum

Come explore South Australia’s cultural diversity and unique identity.

The Migration Museum, in the heart of Adelaide’s North Terrace Cultural precinct, tells the stories of our diverse people, promotes respect for all cultures, and provides space for cultural communities to share their cuisine, their arts, their celebrations, their history and their aspirations.

Explore the galleries in the two buildings of the museum using the dedicated learning guide, visit and spend time in the square and make sure to stop by to ask questions of our friendly Visitor Engagement Officer team.

Visiting the Centre of Democracy

What does democracy mean to you? How do everyday people shape our world? How can you create the future? Discover the people and ideas that have shaped democracy in South Australia, and the power of your voice in it.

The Centre of Democracy is a small gallery, set in the Institute Building of the State Library of SA. Visit the space, explore using the learning guide and have your say in the interactive spaces.
